Can Anxiety Cause High Blood Pressure?

A client recently asked me this question, so I thought that I would post my answer on the bog for others to read.

Anxiety causes a number of metabolic reactions to occur within the body.

These reactions result in something called the fight or flight response, of which many people are aware.

If you have never heard of it or are uncertain as to how it can affect your body, then here are some of the symptoms: a racing heart, feeling dizzy, increased respiration, irritability, itchy skin, feeling the need to go to the toilet, sweating, nausea and even vomiting.

Not everyone experiences all of the symptoms, some people also have additional symptoms that are not on the above list, some symptoms are unique to them.

If a person experiences symptoms of anxiety on a regular basis this may lead to hypertension and if the anxiety is present for a long period of time this can result in an irregular heart rate.

Meditation is a great way to help to reduce high blood pressure. Why not check out our meditation workshops or reach out for our talking therapy?
