Can My Depression Affect Others?

The simple answer to this is yes!

Imagine for a moment that you are watching a comedy on the TV.

If you are not depressed you are likely to find part of the film funny, or at the very least it will make you smile.

Even if you have some degree of depression, you may feel better after watching the funny film.

If you watch a sad film, even if you were not feeling sad at the start of the film you may feel a little sad at the end.

We have the ability to show sympathy and empathy towards others.

If you are in close contact with someone who is depressed, you may feel a little down yourself and this may also lead to you too becoming depressed if you work closely with or are connected to that person in some way.

However, this post is not all negative!

There are times when depressed people can feel the depression lift due to being around a positive person.

Your mood and your behaviour will affect other people, as will theirs.
